Exploring British Botanicals with the BEOA: A Field Trip to Norfolk Essential Oils

23 July 2025

In July, Stort F&F team members Rebecca, Radiah and Emma had the pleasure of attending a BEOA field trip to Norfolk Essential Oils (NEO) for a day spent at the heart of British essential oil production.

Set on the Cambridgeshire–Norfolk border, NEO’s family-run farm and distillery is a key player in UK-grown essential oils. The team explored blooming fields of English chamomile, yarrow, and melissa, learning how these botanicals are cultivated and distilled just metres from where they grow.

The day included:

  • live steam distillation demonstration, offering insight into NEO’s unique “seed to bottle” traceability.
  • sensory session featuring oils, both fresh and aged, resins, and new product prototypes.
  • A guided walk around the wider farm to see sustainable crop rotations and field trials in action.
  • A presentation from Ken Goodger, founder and MD of NEO.

All this, a delicious English picnic lunch, and some real hands-on action from the third generation of Goodgers as well!

As members of the British Essential Oil Association, Stort and NEO is at the forefront of transparency, sustainability and collaboration within the UK fragrance and personal care industry. It was a brilliant opportunity to connect with fellow professionals and experience firsthand the care and craft and that goes into every drop of their essential oils.

Many thanks to NEO and the BEOA for organising such a great field trip, despite the rain!
